The MAXI Awards, an annual event presented by the International Council of Shopping Centers, showcases the creativity and innovation exhibited across the retail real estate industry over the past year. Many shopping districts submit their work to be considered for a prestigious gold medal designation in one of several categories.
We look forward to MAXIs night every year, because our colleagues across the country are pretty incredible! It’s inspiring to see how retail real estate professionals handle some of the same challenges we face each day in entirely new ways.
Although the MAXIs took place a few weeks ago, we are still reminiscing on the wonderful opportunity we had to virtually attend the ceremony and compete with our fellow retail real estate centers. We’re also proud to say that we walked away with three MAXI awards for our work despite last year’s many challenges—two gold and one silver.

Community Arts Initiative (silver)
In an effort to support local artistic talent and brighten the outside spaces where many of our guests, tenants and residents were gathering during the pandemic, we launched our Arts Initiative in 2020. The project, which has produced over 7,886 square feet of new and thought-provoking art pieces thus far, built a sense of community at Atlantic Station that went beyond screens.
This year, we have continued to add to our Arts Initiative. Stay tuned for a brand-new mural by local artist Elaine Stephenson and beautiful mosaic work to be completed in the next several weeks! To learn more about our public art initiative, click here.
Heart of ATL (gold)
Community is truly at the heart of what we do at Atlantic Station—so much so that we took inspiration from our community for the property’s renovation and rebrand. In conjunction with our 15-year anniversary, we rolled out our “Heart of ATL” campaign last year, reminding guests that Atlantic Station is literally and figuratively the beating heart of Atlanta’s bustling metropolis. We went all out and debuted our public art initiative and a historic walking tour to commemorate the occasion, too.
Atlantic Station @ Home (gold)
Finally, we were recognized for our “Atlantic Station @ Home” social media series that we produced in the early days of the pandemic. Our entire staff rallied to develop a video series that featured everything from mixology courses to DIY home projects. Each video took viewers on a journey alongside an Atlantic Station team member, which cultivated a sense of togetherness. Plus, it was a lot of fun to make!
While we’ve paused the series for now, follow us on Instagram to keep up with everything happening on-site, from delectable new dishes by our restaurants to fun and interactive events for every occasion. We’re also new to TikTok—give us a follow and let us know what you think!
